One on one with Prof. Henry A. Giroux. A collaboration with Truthout.org this conversation covers Giroux’s new book, “Youth In a Suspect Society: Democracy or Disposability” [Palgrave/McMillan] which links the corporate propaganda aimed at young people to the pathologies that are created, producing the “youth crime complex”. Giroux is a deep thinker, and his unique analysis connects the commodification of our young people with the erosion of the social compact and the dominance of “the market” in America today. Using California as an example, we discuss the disinvestment in education– to the point that we spend more on prisons than schools. Giroux is the Global TV Network Chair Professor at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada. ![]()

many thanks for this show. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a more intelligent, informative interview. This is what the media should be used for.
I first heard your work on Boiling Frogs and I want you to know you’ve got a new fan. I’ll pass this show around to my friends. And…please continue…you’re one of the few rays of hope in a darkening world…wam
Once again you have managed to put flesh to bone on an important topic.
Bravo PBC!
Peter, your intelligence and mastery of this subject shows depth and insight that is so missing from media today. Not ,many could have a dialogue with Dr. Giroux on such a topic, but you seemed at ease. This was one of the most important discussions I have heard on any media. Its the real America tragedy. As Always…keep up the passion and inspiration.
Remarkable interview, especially for it’s scope, depth, and frankness
The more I understand and appreciate the nature of the difficulty facing sensitive, aware people in a society incresingly dominated by faceless market driven entities, whether private or public: the more I appreciate Henry Girioux and those like him who are williing to open the doors of the slaughter house and encourage us to reaffirm our humanity and recognize the dangerous foolishness of thinking somehow we’re sasfe if we close our eyes or block our ears. Selfishness leads to isolation and loneliness
