All my West Coast listeners know Bernie Ward from his years as the Lion of the Left on KGO/San Francisco.
And you all know that he is serving 6+ years in federal prison on a child pornography conviction. While it’s clear that Bernie broke the law, it is a draconian law that deserves reform. I, for one, decline to judge him; he is paying a heavy price and is certainly punishing himself. His deal with the prosecutor included an understanding that Bernie would serve his sentence in California, either in Dublin or Lompoc. But without warning, he was transferred by plane to Oklahoma City followed by a 12-hour bus ride to “Bloody Beaumont”, in Texas, which is considered one of the worst low security prisons in the nation. This strikes me as a kind of “rendition” to gratuitous extra punishment, as Bernie’s family can’t afford to travel there very often. The rates for phone calls from prisons are jacked up, so it really strains family connections.
Bernie did a lot of good work on his late-night show, the Sunday God Talk, and the charity work he devoted so much energy to. Please take a moment to write him, and include a few stamps so he can write to you and others. And if you are in a position to make a contribution, he and I would be very grateful. I find it difficult to work up a whole lot of sympathy for Berard Ward. Because,.. not only did he download, images of children, & infants being sexually abused, but he forwarded those images,on to “other”, such “perverts, as he has proven himself to be,..So, Mr. Ward, through his own voluntary, & deliberate actions has brough this situation down upon himself, & his family,..I am, also, somewhat disgusted by the practice, of Mr.Ward & his supporters, of begging “chump change”, for stamps,..After all Mr. Ward made good money in his previous occupation,.& his wife is a doctor, so, it would seem, that “stamp”, money would not be beyond his means,..& ,..considering Mr. Wards proclivety for junk food, ..I would not be suprised to learn that some of the “stamp” money sought, is being diverted into satisfying Mr.Ward’s, tendency towards “gluttiny”,..Mr. Ward, once had it all,..It is HE, that threw it all away,..He has no one to blame,..but himself,…

I was an avid fan of Bernie Ward for over 15 years.I felt angry when I learned of his arrest and conviction. I couldn’t believe a man who is as intelliegent on political and human interests could be so stupid as to cave into his own dark impulses and let it ruin his life. I futhermore would never condone anything he did. Having said that I would like to remind those who are so eger to condemn him be aware that he IS serving his sentence and paying his debt to society. He will forever be branded a sex offender and even when he gets out of prison, his life and his family will never ever be the same again. Enough with the laxative jokes and trying to be”Cute” about this very serious subject. There before the grace of God, go I.(And YOU) Don’t ever forget that.
Tecopa Jack didn’t go far enough. Bernie Ward liked to wallow in self-admiration for his work with fund-raising events, but his daily on-air persona was increasingly filled with hate and poison for anyone who disagreed with him. He spewed his toxic ideas toward people for many reasons, not just for politics. He hated conservatives and Republicans, but he also hated certain Christian groups, Southerners in general, the military, etc. On Sunday mornings, he pontificated during his “God Talk” program, and even then he couldn’t let go of political fighting. All the while he was enjoying his “God Talk” status, he was apparently very busy trading in child pornography. I really feel sorry for his family — his wife, his daughters, and his son. Bernie deserves to be in Beaumont. Let’s hope he never returns to a talk radio program anywhere.
