Dahr Jamail Reports: Fukushima Much Worse than Reported; Will Durst on GOP Presidential Candidate Debate

Dahr Jamail, now reporting for AlJazeera, talks about his recent article on Fukushima’s meltdowns, 20 times worse than Chernobyl; Will Durst on the GOP presidential field, such as it is.

Jamail has been a frequent contributor to the PBC Show, as an unembedded reporter in Iraq and more recently covering 2010’s massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.  He recently moved to Doha, Qatar to work for AlJazeera.  Today, he details his reporting on the true extent of the meltdowns at the reactors in Fukushima Daiichi. His expert sources call it the “biggest industrial catastrophe in the history of mankind” that will leave an area 17 times the size of Manhattan uninhabitable for centuries to come.  He describes a 35% increase in infant mortality in the western US, reports of radioactive “hot particles” in Tokyo, and detection of radioactivity in the air filters of cars in Seattle.  Read his article here.  While Germany and other countries re-think their nuke programs, the US seems to remain captive to the nuclear power industry.  Jamail also talks a bit about his new job at AlJazeera, and comments on the “Arab Spring”.  Jamail is the author of Beyond the Green Zone: Dispatches from an Unembedded Journalist in Occupied Iraq and The WIll to Resist: Soldiers Who Refuse to Fight in Iraq and Afghanistan.

At 44:44, Will Durst talks about the recent GOP presidential debate.
