Journalist Joe Lauria on the Arab Spring

Joe Lauria returns in this Boiling Frogs interview, co-hosted with Sibel Edmonds.  He just finished a 3-month tour of the Middle East, and reports on the changes in the region, with special focus on Egypt.  He also comments on the recent Murdoch phone hacking scandal.

Lauria briefs us on his three month long trip to the Middle East, which included, among others, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, and Israel, and shares with us his impressions and analyses on the uprisings in some of these countries, especially in Egypt, where he spent the most time. He discusses the upcoming vote on Palestinian UN membership next month, and the possible implications of planned demonstrations by Palestinians and sympathetic Israelis inspired by the recent nonviolent protests in the region. Lauria speaks about the need for similar non-violent and sustained mass demonstrations against the evolving corporate coup d’etat nearing its complete takeover of the government here in the United States, the failure of Obama and the Democrats in Congress in dealing with the ongoing economic crisis, the rapidly declining state of the US media and more!
