Norman Solomon, author, activist and 2012 Congressional candidate, returns for wide-ranging conversation on many important issues. This conversation was recorded for a local TV program, Healing from the Ground Up.  Solomon is the author of many books, notably War Made Easy: How Presidents and Pundits are Spinning Us to Death.  Solomon is a founding board member of Progressive Democrats of America, was an Obama delegate to the 2008 Democratic Convention, and also founded the Institute for Public Accuracy.

We discuss the sad legacies of Iraq and Afghanistan, and the current pressure for a military strike on Iran.  We also talk about Sen. Rand Paul’s filibuster on drones and presidential power, and the silence of most Democrats who were so vocal in criticizing Bush.  Solomon is very concerned about Obama’s calls to “reform” Social Security by trimming future benefit increases, and the failure of many Democrats in the House to sign on to a letter by Reps. Takano and Grayson stating a refusal to cut benefits.  We talk about Grayson’s re-submission of a bill to allow anyone to buy Medicare coverage, and Solomon describes the ways that activists can get involved in these struggles.
