Miller has joined us in the past to talk about his own important books, Fooled Again and Loser Take All, both about election reform.  We refer to his independent news service, News From Underground, which you can visit and sign up for alerts here.  He is professor of Media, Culture and Communication at New York University.

This summer, he launched the Forbidden Bookshelf project, re-introducing important books that were suppressed, lost or discredited that cover important topics that are relevant today, from covert CIA operations to the battle over abortion rights.

We open with a discussion of today’s oppressive climate for free expression, talking about Obama’s legal pursuit of journalist James Risen.  We talk about the use of the term “conspiracy theories” for those who dare to question the contradictions of policies advanced by the elite and government, more recently in relation to the 9/11 truth movement.  He refers to a book he helped bring to light, Conspiracy Theory in America, by Lance de Haven Smith.  Miller thumbnails the first 5 books on his shelf, which are being made available as e-books.  And he offers a preview of the next release of books in September.
