Greg Palast, one of America's best muckrakers--whose work is widely seen in Britain--talks about the coordinated attack on voter participation and the big money that may manipulate the November election. Palast returns to our program to talk about his new book, Billionaires & Ballot Bandits: How to Steal An Election in 9 Easy Steps. His reports air on the BBC and in the Guardian newspaper, and his website is here. He opens by reporting that GOP megadonor Paul "The Vulture" Singer is complaining to Palast's bosses at BCC about his work, with the vague threat that Singer "has a file" on Palast. We talk about Detroit, where a leading foreclosure law firm also houses GOP party offices, and facilitates the removal from voter roles of foreclosure victims. He details the purging of voter rolls in Florida, the use of photo ID laws to prevent voting, mostly by Democrats. He cites Wisconsin as the test lab, arguing that it has only become a swing state because Dems have been blocked from voting--citing the recent recall election of Gov. Walker. We also cover Democratic voter purges in New Mexico, and the role of big money donors enabled by Citizens United. Like PBC, Palast has suspicions that the viral distribution of the anti-Islamic video may be a political dirty trick.
