In a recent program, Rachel Maddow used the reported purge of Russian spies to claim "proof" that Russia hacked the DNC and tipped the election to Trump. Progressive Democratic activist Norman Solomon has a sharp critique.Solomon is co-founder or RootsAction.org, executive director of the Institute for Public Accuracy, and author of many books, including War Made Easy: How Politicians and Pundits Keep Spinning Us to Death.
Solomon wrote this commentary about Maddow's coverage, which supports the evidence-free claims of Democratic leaders and the US intelligence community that Russian spies hacked the DNC servers and John Podesta's emails and fed that info to WikiLeaks.
We discuss the recent unproven claims by Democrats and Intelligence officials about Russian interference in our 2016 election, and note that the assertions of hacking, "fake news" and voter fraud obscure the sophisticated disinformation machinery of both presidential campaigns, and the obvious ways that Republicans engineered election fraud.
We also talk about Solomon's petition to impeach Trump, which already has 600,000 signatures, and he explains some of the strategy to get traction in the GOP-controlled House by overcoming partisan loyalty with grassroots pressure.
And we chat about the struggle between progressive Keith Ellison and establishment-backed Tom Perez to be the next chair of the DNC.
