Free Preview Clip

In second of 2 audio/video interviews with investigative reporter Mark Schapiro, we focus on his coverage of GMO’s in his new book, Seeds of Resistance.Schapiro is a veteran reporter who’s written for Mother Jones and other outlets and is now a lecturer at the UC Berkeley School of Journalism.

This interview is part of my local series on Marin TV, and you can watch the video here.

In our previous interview, we focused on the corporate control of seed stocks and the expansive use of glyphosate (Roundup) and other toxic pesticides.  In this conversation, we talk about genetically modified organisms and their impact on food stocks, sustainability, and human health.

We discuss the landmark case of Canadian farmer Percy Schmeiser, who lost his legal battle with Monsanto over Round-up ready seeds that drifted onto his property from a neighboring farm.  Schapiro explains that many organic farmers in the US find their products tainted by GMO’s that have infiltrated in a similar way.  We talk about the Eurofins GMO testing lab near New Orleans, and Schapiro breaks down 5 sentences from the book that describe the negative impacts of GMO’s.
